Frank "Cheyenne" Matthew Muwin

Indian Township – Frank “Cheyenne” Matthew Muwin, 65, passed away from cancer on Monday, December 20, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Cheyenne was born in Calais on May 21, 1956.

Cheyenne grew up at Peter Dana Point and attended school at Higgins Classical Institute and Maine Central Institute. He worked as a firefighter until starting his career with Georgia Pacific. Cheyenne retired from Woodland Pulp LLC due to health reasons in 2021 with 34 years of service. He had a special gift with nature and a connection with the wind. Cheyenne was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time in nature canoeing, hiking, ice skating and biking. He loved sports, played on various men’s basketball leagues, and was a huge Patriots fan. Cheyenne was proud to have been over 34 years clean and sober. His passion was spending time with his 4 year old son Jacoby.

Cheyenne was predeceased by his father Anthony Nicholas; mother and step-father Phyllis (Stevens) and Steven Sabattus; brother George Sabattus; and a niece Tonya Socoby. Surviving are his loving wife Tammy Muwin of Indian Township; eight children, his four sons, Aaron Ellis and wife Nicole of Damariscotta, Matthew Muwin of Jefferson, and Jacoby Keith Paul Muwin of Indian Township, and his four daughters, Sara Hunter of Brewer, Sue Abercrombie of Brewer, and Ashley and Trinity Smith of Indian Township; five grandchildren, Zander and Lance Hunter, Scarlett Green, and Austin and Isabella Ellis; his father-in-law and dear friend Keith Ford of PEI, Canada; many siblings from Indian Township, Elona Muwin, Steve, Patrick, Karen, Carl and Richard Sabattus, Belinda Gabriel, Dana Newell, Lisa Smith and Marla Dana; siblings from Tobique, Canada, Rona Martinez, Vincent and Charlie Nicholas, and Jeannie Perley; and many nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at his home, 1 North Eagle Point Rd., Indian Township, until 3 p.m. Thursday, December 23. A Celebration of Cheyenne’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the Indian Township Bingo Hall with Pastor Justin Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at the Indian Township Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
