Frances Virginia Newell, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, took her leave of this world on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born in the heart of Calais on December 27, 1976, Frances was the cherished daughter of Franklin and Mabel (LaCoote) Newell. Her life was characterized by her unyielding spirit, her infectious laughter, and her unparalleled ability to bring joy and warmth to any room she graced.
Frances' academic journey began at Camden High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1993 before expanding her knowledge at Washington County Community College. Her professional journey was as varied as it was rich, working as a dedicated housekeeper in Bar Harbor during the balmy summers and serving her community at Walmart and various stores as a cashier through the colder seasons. Yet, it was not just work that defined Frances. Her true essence could be found in quieter moments — sitting on a beach with the sun setting over the horizon, swaying gently to the music of Brett Michaels, or sharing stories around a vibrant bonfire under a starlit sky.
Frances leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, embodied by her three children, Kailyn Socabasin, Tamara Socabasin, and Jerrell Socabasin. Her memory will continue to blossom in the hearts of her sisters, Tammy Francis, Elisha Altvater, Nakia Dana and her husband Matt II, and Jeanette Socobasin; nieces and nephew, Starr Newell, Franklin Newell Sr., Joseph Francis, Danielle Altvater, Chett Newell, and Rihanna Altvater; two aunts, Zelda LaCoote and Peggy Clement; cousins, Diane Libby and husband Thomas, Jonathan, Lance, and Theresa Clement, and Alicia Hitchins, and their families; great-nieces and great-nephews, Tihtiyas, Gerard, Kaneesha, Hartley, Frank, Paisley, and Atreyu; and her best friend Tania Morey. Frances was preceded in death by her parents Franklin and Mabel Newell; sister, Starr Marie LaCoote, her nephew Jacob Hold, uncles, Ray and Frank, and aunts Arlene and Vergie. Her radiant spirit will continue to guide and inspire all those she has left behind.
Visitation will commence at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Pleasant Point Community Center, 23 Koluskap Road, Pleasant Point, and will continue until 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 9. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. To honor Frances' memory, we invite you to share your stories, photos, and condolences at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. In celebrating Frances Newell, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit.
