Eva Nora Day

January 21, 1932 — June 22, 2021

Princeton - Eva Nora (Sawtelle) Day, 89, died Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Calais Regional Hospital with her granddaughters Rachael and Amanda by her side. She was born January 21, 1932, in Princeton, daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Brown) Sawtelle. She was predeceased by her husband, Truman Day, her brothers Franklin, Vern and Ronald Sawtelle, and parents Lawrence and Mildred Sawtelle. She is survived by her two daughters, Sally Warren and Sharon Campbell, grandchildren, Darren DiCenzo, Melissa Jo, Amanda DiCenzo, Rachael Brown, Ashley Warren, Samantha Warren and Daniel Warren, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything. Playing cards, taking trips to Bangor, going to camp, and cooking with members of her large family were very special to Eva. She fondly displayed all of the homemade cards and scrap books given to her by family.

Eva and the love of her life, Truman, were married March 15,1952 and spent 67 wonderful years together. They enjoyed spending time outside at camp, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards and playing with all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were avid puzzle builders and always did the word puzzles in the Bangor Daily News together. They never missed The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. They enjoyed watching the deer and turkeys in the yard and always fed the birds and squirrels.

Eva graduated from Princeton High School, where she played basketball, was involved in drama and literary clubs, class president, and prom Queen.

Eva worked at Hathaway's Shirt Company, Norwalk Shoe Company, helped start the Princeton Emergency Squad and then began her career at Calais Regional Hospital in 1981 where she worked until 2002. Everyone she came in contact with at CRH loved her and looked forward to her delicious baked goods. Her bright smile and laugh always welcomed you to "Hall Wing".

There will be a service for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers you can make a donation to any small local EMT/Fire department, or the Zoe fund at Calais Veterinary Clinic. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
