Elmer was known for his excellent carpentry skills.  He was proud to have built all of his homes and camps, as well as helping others.  Elmer enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and spending time at his camps on the St. Croix, and later Grand Lake Stream.  He enjoyed watching hockey games and even played hockey for the St. Stephen Amateur Hockey Team until his 40’s.

In addition to his parents Harold Doughty and Myrtle Bacon, Elmer was predeceased by his beloved wife Judith Doughty; great-granddaughter Danielle; and his companion for the last 15 years, Phyllis Sprague.  Surviving are his four daughters, Wanda Smith of Alexander, Robin Higgins and husband Robert of Bowdoinham, Joanne Fielding of Brunswick, and Patricia Brezovsky and husband Kenneth of Bucksport; nine grandchildren, Robert and Chad Smith, Jamie Crowe and companion Candy Roderick, Jeremy Crowe and wife Denise, Julie Crowe, Jessica McCrum and husband Blaine, Jay Fielding, and Jacob and Emma Brezovsky; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother Randy Doughty and wife Faye of Deer Island, NB; sister Sharon Polk and husband Donald of The Villages, FL; and his nieces and nephews.
