On October 3, 2025, the world bid farewell to a remarkable woman, Elizabeth Ann Merrill, aged 62. Born in Calais on February 17, 1963, to Grant and Barbara (Allen) Seeley, Elizabeth was a woman of strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family. A graduate of Calais High School, Class of 1981, she married the love of her life, Robert Merrill, on June 12, 1982. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of fond memories.
Elizabeth was a woman of many talents and interests. Elizabeth served her community as the Town Clerk for Robbinston in the 90's. She spent time with her children collecting sea glass and sand dollars at Mill Cove, playing Uno and many games of Yahtzee, and swimming and exploring at Nash's Lake. Elizabeth shared the same quick wit, sarcasm and sense of humor with her sisters and brother. Her children, nieces, and nephews will remember many family gatherings full of laughter. After her children were older, she began working as a Personal Care Assistant, bringing comfort and care to the elderly in area assisted living centers. She found joy in gardening, snapping green beans for canning for hours on end with her children, and eventually grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafting and was an unabashed Red Sox fan. However, it was the Christmas season that truly captured her heart. The season perfectly reflected her spirit. Above all, her children and grandchildren were her life, her pride, and her joy.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Barbara Seeley, brother, Edward Seeley, and sister, Christine Seeley. Her legacy of love and devotion continues in the hearts of her husband, Robert Merrill; children, Katie Merrill and wife Rachel Soule of Springvale, Benjamin Pottle and husband Patrick of Calais, Rebecca Merrill and companion Mike Sherrard of Calais, Zachary Merrill and wife Penny of Perry, Tanner Merrill and wife Caitlin of Baring, and son Brendon Morris and wife Michelle of York; grandchildren, Lucian Steadman, Amelia "Emmie" Merrill, Charlotte "Sharkie" Merrill, and Griffin Merrill; sisters, Cheryl Mahar and husband Jerry of Robbinston and Laurel Perkins and husband Dean of Baring; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda Sax of Calais, and James and Sheila Avery of Perry; as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, her beloved canine companion, Jimmy, and several feline companions.
A special thanks to Fresenius Dialysis Center in Eastport. Her family has enduring gratitude for the excellent care she received. The staff and patients at the center became a cherished part of her life.
A private gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Elizabeth's life. Arrangements are entrusted to Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.MaysFuneralHome.com.
