Obituary for Elaine M. Mitchell

Indian Township – Elaine Marie Mitchell, 70, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on May 4, 2018 in Augusta. Elaine was born in Calais on July 20, 1947, the eldest to Pauline (Lola) Neptune. She grew up in Indian Township where she attended school, and then began training as a nurse. Elaine worked for over twenty years as a maternity ward nurse at Calais Regional Hospital where she would not only care for the new babies, but also the mothers. Elaine enjoyed coaching new moms, including many of her own family members.

In addition to her mother, Elaine was predeceased by her husband, George W. Mitchell, her two sons, Michael Mitchell and Joseph Wiseman; stepfather, Noel Neptune; daughter-in-law, Rose Lola; two very special friends, Lola Sockabasin and Viola Brown and many aunts and uncles.

Family was most important to Elaine, she worked hard to provide for her own children and was also there for many “foster” children. She made a lasting impression and kept a close-knit relationship with the ones she loved, always encouraging them to care for each other. Her “boys” Joby, Theodore, and Little Wade held a special place in her heart.

Elaine is survived by six children, Darrell Lola of Livermore Falls, Wade Lola and his wife Linda of Indian Township, Greg Mitchell and his wife Betty of Princeton, Richard “John” Mitchell and his partner Ann of Milford, Michelle Mitchell, and Theodore B. Mitchell and his wife Lena, all of Indian Township; grandchildren, Joseph Soctomah, William, Jennifer and Joshua Lola, Tene Downing, Faithann Brown, Roger Seelye II, Sara Nicholas, April Lola, Nipon Libby, Adrienne Lola, Russell Lola, Wade Lola II, Phyllis Lola, Kyle Newell, Cherish Mitchell, Leeanna Newell, Selina Mitchell-Lola, Janelle Traugh, Michael Phelps, Mitchell Paul, Rachel Mitchell, Warren Mitchell, Sipsis Mitchell, Thunder Mitchell, Kanala Mitchell, RyAnne Mitchell and Theo Mitchell; great grandchildren, Tihtiyas, Tucker, Easton, Hunter, Brooklyn, Nakeisha, Jack, Isaac, Walter, Parker, Sophia, Caiden, Sierra, Tre, Cecelia, Louis, Isaac, Carlena, Vaeha, Ryker, Aisha, Malsom, Hunter, and Nova; sister, Lynn Neptune and brother-in-law, Ralph Smith Sr.; brothers, Justin Lola and Cheryle Lola, Allison Lola and his wife Cindy and Wilfred Neptune and his wife Patricia; Godchildren Albert Joseph Harnois, Fawn Socobasin, Krystin Smith, Joseph Lola and Warren Dana; nieces and nephews, Wenona Lola, Rick Dana Jr, Nakoma Lola, Justin Lola, Pauline "Sunshine" Lola, Joseph Lola, Natalie Bassett, Ralph Smith II, Krystin Smith, Tahnee Neptune, Traci Neptune, Wilfred Neptune II, Sydney Neptune and Sage Neptune and her close friend Ester Hood.

Elaine will be remembered for her love of family, bingo, gardening, yard-saleing and basketmaking, she will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will begin 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8th until 9:00 a.m., Friday, May 11th at her home, 6 Lake Drive, Peter Dana Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 11th at St. Anne’s Parish, Peter Dana Point. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
