Obituary for Earl Ray Antone

Dennysville – Earl Ray Antone, 88, passed away, Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Machias. Ray was born on January 19, 1928 to Philip and Faye (Dunn) Antone in Pembroke. He was an active member of his community and enjoyed his involvement with people despite that he would grumble all the way.

He married his wife, Arline Dodge on January 25, 1947 in Pembroke, she supported him on all his endeavors. Ray was a licensed auctioneer, he owned a car dealership and enjoyed dealing antiques but was most proud of his time spent as Firefighter with the Cutler Naval Station where he retired after 25 years of service. He was a licensed Maine Master Guide who appreciated nature and the outdoors. Ray would do guided hunting and fishing trips from his hunting camp where he loved to drink fresh water right from rivers and streams. He also served briefly with the United States Army after being drafted, he volunteered for over 60 years on the Dennysville Fire Department, served as selectman in Dennysville for 25 years, an EMT on the Dennysville Volunteer Ambulance and was also a member of Crescent Lodge #78 A.F. & A.M. for over 60 years and Pennamaquan Chapter #146 Order of the Eastern Star, both of Pembroke.

In addition to his parents Ray was predeceased by his nephew, Wendall Dodge and his close friend and cousin, Earl Meachum. He will be missed by his wife, Arline Antone; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, including Ruth (Dodge) Lyons and her husband Leonard of Topsham, Douglas Dodge and his wife Brenda of Jonesport and Pastor William Dodge and his wife Debbie of Bucks Harbor; many cousins, including Silvia Sayer of Rockport and Wayne Antone of Bangor as well as many friends.

Donations in Ray’s memory may be made to Pembroke Iron Works Methodist Church, P.O. Box 278, Pembroke, ME 04666. A graveside service for Ray will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 25th at Dennysville Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
