Obituary

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Douglas B. Sadler, who left us on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the age of 55. Born in Calais on July 21, 1970, Douglas was the beloved son of Frank and Pauline (Duchesneau) Sadler. Douglas was a man of admirable strength and character, leaving a legacy of love, honor, and commitment to his family, friends, and country. A graduate of Woodland High School, Class of 1988, Douglas found joy in music, playing the trumpet in the band. Following his passion for service, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served with distinction for six years as an Air Traffic Controlman. His service in the Navy took him to Florida, Virginia, aboard the U.S.S. Wasp during the Persian Gulf War. After his service, Douglas returned home to Maine, where he continued serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves while pursuing his bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of Southern Maine. His journey of knowledge didn't stop there as he went on to graduate from Washington County Community College, studying Information Technology. He used his skills and expertise working for various companies in the IT industry, most recently for the Regional Medical Center of Lubec. Douglas was also a proud member of the American Legion W.T. Wren Post #23 in Baileyville. Douglas was a man of many interests, with a keen love for the outdoors, camping, and geocaching. He found joy in capturing life's beautiful moments through his photography. An avid Miami Dolphins fan, his enthusiasm for the team was infectious. His compassionate heart extended towards animals, especially his new puppy, Morty, who brought him immense joy. However, Douglas's greatest joy was his daughter, Makayla, and his granddaughter, Ivy Ray Lewis. His face would light up whenever he spoke about them, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Douglas leaves behind a loving family: his parents, Frank and Pauline Sadler; his beloved daughter, Makayla Sadler (Tyler Lewis); his cherished granddaughter, Ivy Ray Lewis; sister Kathy McGaw and her husband Darin; brother Dan Sadler and his wife Tabatha; nephew Alec McGaw; nieces Laurel McGaw and Emery Sadler; aunts and uncles, Rosemarie and Larry MacDonald, Beverly Richardson, Annette Duchesneau, and Dana Dahlgren; and an abundance of cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. A graveside service to honor Douglas's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite all who knew Douglas to leave memories, upload photos and extend their condolences at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. As we remember Douglas, may we celebrate his life, his service, and the love he had for all of us.
