Douglas Stephen Porter, also fondly known as Dougie, born July 14, 1958, in Calais, Maine, passed away at home on January 2, 2026.
A lifelong resident of Calais, Dougie was skilled at many trades, but was best known for his carpentry and plumbing abilities. He was known for his attention to detail and his knack for fixing things. Away from work, Dougie had a passion for cars and trucks, often spending his free time tinkering with engines. He also found solace in the tranquility of Sudoku puzzles, a hobby that brought him much peace and relaxation, especially in the past few years.
Dougie was a one-of-a-kind individual, described by his family as soft but private about showing it. He had a kind heart, a good sense of humor, but definitely could be ornery at times. Affectionately known for the occasional drink and his renditions of Irish tunes, he often made up his own words, bringing laughter to all around him. His special friend and caregiver, Sheri Wakefield, was a significant part of his life.
Dougie is survived by his brother, Gary Porter; his sister, Kathy Goodine and her husband, David; and his daughter, Erin Norton (Chet), grandchildren Elise and Rowan, nieces and nephews Joshua, Jason (Ashley), Justina, and Robbie; great nieces and nephews Aaron, Kassidi, Jakob, Aubreanne, Eliot, Abigail, Mea-Jay, and Philip-Joshua. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Porter, and his nephew, Steven Porter. All of those who loved Dougie will cherish his memory and the joy he brought into their lives.
A graveside service for Douglas will take place in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Condolences and memories of Dougie may be shared at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. The family encourages anyone who knew Dougie to contribute to his memorial page, upload photographs, and share stories of his life, his humor, and his unique singing.
