Douglas L. Hoover, 79, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Orono Commons. Douglas was born in Conewago Twp, Pennsylvania, on January 1, 1943.
Douglas graduated from Dover High School in Dover, PA, Class of 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served with The Old Guard at Ft. Myer, VA. During a Bicentennial demonstration, Douglas was severely injured due to a cannon mishap, severing his hand and half of the other. While in the hospital at Walter Reed Medical Center, he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Battista. On July 8, 1978, in the Chapel at Walter Reed Medical Center, they were united in marriage. Together they lived in York County, PA and in 2002 decided to move to Maine where they settled in Pembroke. Douglas loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and watching NASCAR and IndyCar races.
Douglas was predeceased by his mother Margaret Coble and her husband Gordon; and a brother McCormick Coble. Surviving are his beloved wife of 44 years, Jacqueline Battista of Pembroke; two sisters, Carla Bressler and husband Tim of York, PA, and Coleen Brenneman and husband Dale of Dover, PA; numerous extended family members; and his four legged children, Muwin and Springsteen.
