Obituary for Dorothy Burns

Calais – Dorothy J. Andrews Burns, 91, died peacefully Monday, July 24, 2006 at a Calais hospital surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born in Calais on January 14, 1915, daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Andrews. She lived most of her life on Hinckley Hill where she spent many hours planning and working in her flower garden. Dorothy was an avid reader and supporter of the Calais Free Library. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Croix Valley International Garden Club, and the St. Croix Historical Society. In recent years, her garden has been the location of many wedding ceremonies. Dorothy married Barry H. Burns in 1935. She was predeceased by her husband Barry in 1985; a sister, Geraldine Tuell; and a brother, Thomas Jennings; and a good friend, Earl Caughey. She is survived by her son, Barry Burns of Calais; four daughters, Sandra Patridge-Scott and husband Wendell of Statesboro, GA, Geraldine Wentworth and Bonnie Eberhart, both of Calais, and Linda Landry and husband Bruce of Rochester, NH; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Marino and her daughter Jane Marino of Calais; nieces, Barbara Swenson and husband Pete of Bangor, Pat Tocchio and husband Mike of Calais, and Kay Booth of St. Stephen, NB; and a nephew, Webber Burns of Milltown, NB.
