Obituary

With grace in our hearts, we bid farewell to Donald J. Chaisson, known affectionately as Don. Born on December 16, 1955, in Portland, Maine to Joseph and Ruth (Kenney) Chaisson, Don was a beacon of light throughout his seventy years, until his peaceful passing on January 19, 2026. With a spirit as vast and captivating as the Casco Bay he loved, Don's presence was a sturdy anchor in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Don's life was a testament to service and commitment. After graduating from Yarmouth High School, he served his country valiantly as a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to Maine, his dedication to his community shone through his work as the Public Works Superintendent for both Yarmouth and North Yarmouth. Even in retirement, his sense of duty persisted, serving as a police officer for the Kennebunk Police Department and most recently as a Maine State Judicial Marshal for the State of Maine in Androscoggin County. Yet it was not just his professional life that exemplified service; Don lived his personal life with the same honor and integrity, sharing love, laughter, and music with all who crossed his path. Indeed, beyond his illustrious career, Don was a man of diverse interests and talents. His love for the ocean was a constant from his childhood, as were the cherished times spent with family and friends along the shores of Casco Bay. A gifted musician, Don filled the lives of those around him with the joyful notes of the guitar, drums, and piano. His love for animals was evident in the affection he lavished on his farm life. His impact on humanity, through song, humor, and dignity, was profound and enduring. Don was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, whose memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Mona Meyer, his step-children who he considered his own, Dustin Corcoran, Joshua Corcoran, Bethany Corcoran, and Sarah Burke, his sister Janice Seabury (David), and nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Michael (Jennifer), Monique (Robert), and Paul (Jessica), He is also survived by many cousins, aunts longtime friends. Don was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ruth, and his brother Wayne J Chaisson. His life will be celebrated at a later date, under the arrangements of Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Don's journey on earth was a melody of love and service, resonating with the words, "Well done good & faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord." As we remember Don, we invite you to share your fondest memories and upload photos to his memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. In these shared moments, we can collectively remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Donald Chaisson.
