On December 27, 2025, Dianna Jane Perkins, 59, passed away at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, on September 23, 1966, to George M. Perkins Sr. and Elaine (Cochran) Perkins, Dianna spent her life in service to others, marked by her unwavering kindness and generosity. She graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1985, before furthering her education at the University of Maine at Farmington. Her determination and passion led her to Wales, where she served as an animal shelter manager, taking care of abused pitbulls and rottweilers with love and dedication.
Dianna's love for animals went beyond her professional life; she was a guardian angel to many stray animals. On her farm, she cared for numerous strays, using her own resources to spay and neuter over 100 cats. This testament to her compassion also extended to her work as a secretary at O'Conner Auto Dealerships in Augusta, and later serving as secretary at T.O.P.S. In 2011, she returned to Washington County to be closer to her family, but her passion for service never ceased. She volunteered for the Eastern Area Agency on Aging and was involved in teaching vacation bible school, Sunday school, and youth bible camp in her early years. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Machias and served as a patient advocate for Sunrise County Dialysis patients in Eastport.
Dianna was also a talented baker and a skilled knitter, creating hundreds of mittens and hats for orphans in Romania. She had a card ministry, sending thoughtful messages to friends and those unable to leave their homes. Her kindness and care were felt by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to bring light into their lives. Dianna was predeceased by her parents, George and Elaine Perkins; a brother, George Perkins Jr.; and a grandnephew, Sabastin Johnson. She is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Engroff, Rebecca Perkins, and Joyce Dawson and husband Keith, along with cherished nieces and nephews, Justina Gidney and husband Zacch, Amanda Engroff, Stephen Perkins, Kimberlee Dawson, Ashlee Henry and husband Jared, and Elaine Perkins; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2025, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A private burial will take place in the spring at Princeton Cemetery. Everyone who was touched by her life is encouraged to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family know that Dianna's heart would prefer donations to be made to your local animal shelter. Let us remember Dianna for her unwavering love and kindness, and let her life be an inspiration to us all.
