Diane Marie (McMurtry) Foster, 59, of Calais, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2026, at Calais Community Hospital. Born on April 23, 1967, she was the beloved daughter of Harold and Francine (Altvater) McMurtry.

Diane grew up in Calais and attended local schools before furthering her education at Washington County Vocational Technical Institute, where she pursued secretarial courses. Diane held a variety of jobs throughout her life from bartending at "Friends" to housekeeping at local establishments.

An avid reader, Diane had a particular fondness for the novels of Stephen King, Sarah Graves and James Patterson. She also took great pleasure in enjoying a home cooked meal or going out to eat with her niece Danielle and her BFF Molly.

Diane will be deeply missed by her family, including her two sisters, Brenda Fielding and her husband Peter of Lakeville, and Francine Gardner and her fiancé Chuck Towns of Baring Plt. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Gary Hatt. Also, a host of nieces and nephews-Cindy, Chrissy, Kathie, Shelly, Malinda, Renee, Peter, Danielle, Nathan, and Michael-along with several grandnieces, grandnephews and many cousins. Diane is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Lil Bit whom she loved more than anything.

Diane was predeceased by her husband, Larry Foster; her son, Ryan David Arbo; two sisters, Kathy Foster and Lindy Hatt; and her brother, David McMurtry and brother-in-law Daniel Gardner. She joins them in peace and love.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Sunrise County Dialysis Center for their compassionate care and support, Eric and all the drivers from L & L Transportation, as well as to Rosie and her staff from Unleashed Nutrition and the owners of the Sandwich Man for always being so thoughtful and kind to Diane.

A private family celebration of Diane's life will be held at a later date to honor her memory. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Friends and family are invited to share condolences, memories, and photos on Diane's memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages others to consider becoming organ donors. Diane was very proud of her son Ryan, whose organ donation saved three lives.
