With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dennis McIntyre, a man of remarkable resilience and strength, who lived a life of service and dedication. Born on August 3, 1942, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Lachlan and Lillian McIntyre, Dennis transitioned peacefully on October 6, 2025, at the age of 83, in Calais, Maine, surrounded by his loving family.
Dennis was an embodiment of courage and patriotism, serving as an aircraft dispatcher during the Vietnam War. Following his service stint, he returned to his home state, where he worked diligently in Dye House's maintenance crew. His pursuit of excellence led him to Maine, where he carved out a rewarding career with Georgia Pacific. He spent an impressive 40 years in the Pulp & Paper industry as an Equipment Operator, retiring in 2006. Dennis married Martha Cushing, the love of his life, on October 11, 1980, and they shared a blissful union. He was an avid gardener, coin collector, and an enthusiast of fishing and hunting, making the most out of life's simple pleasures.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Lachlan and Lillian McIntyre, daughter Vicki Demmons, grandsons Billy Townsend and Nicholas White, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael and Jean Cushing, and Maureen Cushing. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Martha McIntyre; five children, Nancy Lincoln and husband Stephen of Baileyville, Gerald Ricky of Hollis Center, David W. Townsend and wife Catherine of Calais, Kim McVicar and husband Billy of Calais, and Michelle Waite and husband Bruce of Perry, GA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Romano and husband Bill and Bette Gross and husband Jim; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marsha and Kenneth Morse, Marilyn and Michael Whelpley, Malcolm and Norma Cushing, and Martin Cushing; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at his home, 14 Poole St, Calais, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
