David Oliver, of Calais, Maine, passed away on the 19th of January, 2026. Born on November 27, 1945, at the Houlton Army Air Base. He was a beacon of joy, a man who remembered everyone's name and greeted each person with a warmth that resonated deeply. David's life was filled with simple pleasures, and he found joy in the everyday moments that many often overlooked.
David was a familiar sight riding around town on his bicycle, his cheerful wave greeting everyone he passed by. His presence was a constant in Karen's Diner where he savored pies and shared stories, bringing a smile to everyone's face. David had a unique charm that endeared him to all who met him. He had an affinity for Coca-Cola and Pay Day candy bars, quirks that added to his endearing character. David's life, while quiet, was filled with a richness that came from his appreciation of the small things and his ability to connect with people on a genuine level.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Oliver, and his brother, Philip Oliver. He leaves behind his sister, Jane (Oliver) Purton, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him. His loss is deeply felt by those who were privileged to know him. The family extends their gratitude to the North Street Bridge Home for their years of dedicated care to David. A private burial will be held at the Calais Cemetery, where he will be interred with his parents. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
