Obituary

Clayton S. Bailey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his home in Princeton, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 17, 1948, he was the son of Frank and Ruth (Penney) Bailey.

Clayton's zest for life began in Princeton, where he graduated from high school before embarking on a fulfilling career in the woods, initially with the woods division for Georgia Pacific. His strong work ethic led him to become a heavy equipment operator for Philip McDowell and later for Murray LaPlant & Sons, from which he eventually retired.

On August 10, 1968, he married his beloved wife, Margaret Fenlason, and together they built a life filled with love and adventure. A cherished part of Clayton's and Margaret's lives were the family camp on Big Lake, which served as a summer retreat for generations of Baileys. This idyllic setting was a backdrop for countless cookouts, parties, and gatherings filled with laughter and love. There, surrounded by family and friends, Clayton and Margaret nurtured bonds that would last a lifetime. The memories created amongst the towering pines and shimmering waters will forever be held close by all who knew them.

Clayton's legacy will be carried on through the stories shared around campfires and the love woven into the fabric of family gatherings. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will warm the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A passionate outdoorsman, Clayton cherished his time spent hunting, fishing, and honing his carpentry skills. He took great pride in being a Master Maine Guide and was an active member of the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, he contributed to the building of their facility, leaving an indelible mark on the community he loved. Following the loss of his wife of 37 wonderful years, Clayton found companionship in Connie Libby, with whom he shared the last 16 years of his life.

In addition to his parents, Clayton was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Bailey; a great-granddaughter Iyla; and brothers Roland Bailey and wife Laurel, Harry Bailey and wife Sandra, Lawrence Bailey, and infant brothers Richard and Brent. Surviving are his three children, Kimberly Budroe and husband Robert of Windham, Kelli Wells and husband Jonathan of Suffolk, VA, and Kevin Bailey Sr. and wife Becky of Indian Township; ten grandchildren, Mitchell Budroe, Alexis Budroe, Lydia Budroe, Bryanna Wells, Jocelyn Wells, Reagan Taniguchi and husband Mikio, Kelli Denley and husband Jordon, Kevin Bailey Jr., Taylor Soctomah, and Shane Lewey; six great-grandchildren; brother Bradley Bailey and wife Cintya; sisters-in-law, Lana Bailey, and Joanne Tupper and husband Ronald; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Clayton is also survived by his companion of 16 years, Connie Libby of Princeton; and her children, Tammy Hood and husband William, and Jeffrey Libby and wife Eleody, and their families.

In honor of Clayton's wishes, a private celebration of life will be scheduled in the future.
