Clarice M. Sapiel

November 12, 1960 — April 10, 2024

Pleasant Point

Clarice Marie Sapiel, age 63, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 10, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.

Clarice was born  in Eastport, Maine November 12, 1960, daughter of Francis “Red” Sapiel and Mary (Nicholas) Sapiel. Clarice attended Lee Academy and eventually got her GED at Dull Knife College with the help of her life long friend Patty Neptune.

After graduating she worked various jobs as a cook as well as a life guard at the recreation department at Sipayik. But her most important and favorite job was being a mother to her children Wesley Stevens and Natasha Sapiel whom she loved until her last breath.

Clarice and former spouse Roger Sockabasin were together for many years, although this relationship didn’t last they still remained friends throughout the years.

Clarice was proud of her Passamaquoddy heritage, she loved to dance to our traditional songs.

Clarice also loved cooking, she was always cooking something and loved playing poker, especially Texas hold em. Clarice had a heart of gold and helped raise many of her nieces and nephews; they knew they had a safe place to go wherever she was. She LOVED her “husband” Dean Winchester from her favorite show Supernatural.

As many of you know Clarice was “spunky” to say the least, that humor most of the time R rated stayed with her until her last moments; cracking jokes and happily making her family laugh.

When the nursing home would ask her how she wanted her tea she would always respond twisted.

In addition to her parents Clarice was predeceased by her siblings Marsha Dana, Veronica Sapiel, Lenny Sapiel, Dominic Sapiel, Flora Sapiel and Phyllis Sapiel; niece Fawn Sapiel; nephews Nicholas Dana, and Shane Sapiel.

Surviving are her brothers James Sapiel Sr and wife Theresa of Pleasant point; Joseph Greywolf Sapiel and wife Millie Taylor Sapiel of Pleasant Point; and sister Sandra Lewey of Pleasant Point; Aunts Viola Cotta and Patsy Lizotte; grandchildren who loved their Grammy cookie, Hope, Zaila, and Isaiah; many nieces and nephews; Janelle, Jen, Francis, Dominic, little Lenny, Brad, Brett, Kassidy, James Jr, Minquan, Mario, Anthony, Joseph, Linwood, EagleTalon, Niponiw, Dawson, Sophia, Mikoo, and Aluhk. In addition, many great niece and nephews; special cousin Kevin Brackett; and friends for life including Daureen Stevens, Rhonda Pehrson, Lulu Homan, Treena Burnelle, Junior Pehrson, and Bernice Perry.

A thank you to the staff at the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, and a special thank you to her Cousin Nina Clement who was right by Clarice’s side until the very end. And remember to “keep on your toes.”

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Clarice’s name to the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home.
