Obituary

Christopher Anthony Scott, 59, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2026, doing what he did every morning - sitting on the couch, drinking his coffee and reading his Kindle. Originally from St. Croix, New Brunswick, he was born June 13, 1967, the eldest child and only son of the late Darryl Leslie Scott and Linda (Doherty) Scott.

Chris grew up in St. Croix and attended McAdam High School, graduating in 1986. He went straight into the workforce to help support the household with his mother and his sisters. He worked many jobs in the area from security at the plywood plant in McAdam to a forklift operator for Nova Gypsum of McAdam. He worked as a New Brunswick guide as well as for McAdam Home Building Supply, a business owned by his aunt and uncle. He also was a volunteer fire fighter with the Vanceboro Maine Fire Department.

In 1993, Chris met his wife, Anne. He moved from St. Croix to Calais, Maine when they married in 1994. Chris still moved between jobs for a few years, working for Maine Roofing Company, Fiber Extrusion, Town Taxi and Johnson's Hardware. He eventually found his calling in public service, going to work for McGovern's Ambulance Service in 1996 as a driver and an EMT. He worked there part time until 1999 when he joined the service full-time and became an EMT intermediate. He worked through the transitions from McGovern's ambulance service to Downeast EMS and continued working EMS until 2013. In 2001, he joined the Calais Fire Department, serving as the safety officer and other duties until 2007. In 2007, while still working EMS, he joined the Calais Police Department as a part-time patrolman. In 2019, he joined Wireless Partners as their warehouse supervisor and minor technician, while continuing to work for the police department.

Chris was an avid hunter and shooter. He learned gunsmithing from a correspondence course in the early 90's and cleaned and repaired many firearms for people over the years. He was an NRA certified handgun safety instructor and taught many people in the community how to safely care for and use firearms. He was a true believer that educating people was the best way to keep them safe. He loved to play a game of cards but never would lose more than he could afford to. And though many would not believe it, he was an avid reader, carrying his Kindle wherever he went.

Chris was a hands-on family man. He was a very present dad and an active "Papa". He always tried to be at his kid's events, even if he was working. He would be seen watching T-Ball games while sitting next to the ambulance or driving the cruiser to watch a little league softball game. He would jump in to take care of his grandkids when needed, and even took time to travel to Portland to be trained to care for his granddaughter's health needs. Though he would often complain about it, he would do anything for his family.

Chris was predeceased by his father, Darryl Leslie Scott, his grandparents, David and Edith Scott, Lou Doherty and Earl and Barbara Sutherland, his beloved uncle Sanford Scott, and his aunt Gloria Scott, his Aunt Linda Scott Russell and his uncles Terry Russell and Marty Grass, and his cousin Davy Grass. He is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Anne, his son Jacob and fiancée Brooke, his daughter Nichola, and his two beloved grandchildren, Emmett and Juliet. He is also survived by his mother, Linda Scott, his sisters Dawn McIver and partner Dan Spear, Darcy Dixon and husband Frank, and Daphine Scott, his local nieces, Amber Anderson, and her husband Elijah, Kelsey Monk and partner Owen Sturgeon, Alecia Lyons and husband Robbie, and local nephews Patrick and Nicholas Cropley. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, cousins, in-law siblings on his wife's side as well as too many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews to list. He will also be greatly missed by his unbiological brothers, Danny Dinsmore, Mark Carr and David Thornton as well as very special friend and former EMS partner, Sue Frye.

Per his own request, there will be no viewing or funeral. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to Calais High School Rockathon that supplies Christmas for local needy children. There will be a celebration of remembrance on November 21st at the Calais Motor Inn (more details to follow). Arrangement by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
