Waite & Eastport – Charlotte R. Renaud, 99, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Charlotte was born in Waite on July 4, 1919, daughter of Justus and Grace (Riox) Rideout.
Charlotte grew up on the family farmstead where self-sufficiency was a way of life: they grew their own wheat, spun yarn from their sheep and turned it into knit mittens and sweaters for the large family. On March 23, 1938, she married her love, Edward Renaud. Together they celebrated a wonderful 76 years of marriage.
Charlotte was close to her siblings but especially close to all her sisters - most of whom lived nearby – and in later years was close to their children. She was a talented cook and seamstress. Charlotte could turn a piece of fabric into a dress without a pattern and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She canned jars of jam and vegetables until she was well into her 80’s. Charlotte spoiled her grandchildren with Nana’s special “coffee”, which was basically canned milk plus a little of coffee. She was an avid reader, enjoying “going places in her books.” She stayed up-to-date on national and world news until the end. Charlotte spent many years tracing her family roots back to before the Revolutionary War.
Charlotte worked as a telephone operator for several years and was a faithful member of the Waite-Talmadge Congregational Church where she served as Treasurer. Charlotte was member of the Ladies Aid at church and a member of Orion Chapter No. 45 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward; a daughter Rosalie Ouimette; granddaughter Sheila Walters and her husband Roger; five sisters, Elsie Gould and husband Herman, Virginia Phelps and husband Donald, Jessie Sutherland and husband Osgood, Iva Trask and husband Cecil, and Frances Dudley and husband Norman; and her two brothers, Edmund Rideout and wife Allison, and Warren Rideout and wife Marcia. Surviving are her daughter, Greta Renaud; son-in-law Donald Ouimette; sister-in-law Rose Bean; grandchildren, Donald, Deborah, Dolores, Edward and Robert Ouimette, Renee Pottle, Camela Deschene and Michele Preston; 20 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 24th in the Waite-Talmadge Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
