Charlene Hope Tyrrell, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor surrounded by family. Charlene was born in Perry on March 14, 1944, daughter of Susan Ann Snow and Frederick "Johnson" Tomah.
Charlene had so much love for her large family. She was a beloved mother and grandmother with a special place in her heart for the young children in her life. She cherished family time. Charlene held dear her Passamaquoddy culture and language. She loved going to tribal gatherings where she enjoyed the drumming, and in her earlier days, danced with her loved ones. At gatherings, she became a bit of a social butterfly connecting with old friends and relatives. Charlene was kind with a charitable nature. If there was a way for her to help, she would. She loved animals and had many beloved pets and strays she cared for throughout her life. It gave her great joy to feed the birds and deer. She loved movies, books, board games, and puzzles. She enjoyed music, especially old country, and singing and gave the gift of voice to her daughter Julie and granddaughter Lauren.
She is remembered by many for her Catholic faith and bestowing that on her children and grandchildren who have fond memories of attending Mass regularly with her, hearing her sing the hymns, and her love for praying the rosary. Charlene had a very silly sense of humor and was quite the jokester. Her family joyfully recalls many times of laughter and her never-failing sarcasm and wit. She had the gift of expression and wrote beautiful letters with her distinctive cursive handwriting. Later in her life she joined Facebook, using her nickname Charl, and was so happy to connect with loved ones and keep up with everyone's lives. Charlene loved being "out and about" shopping and dining, cruising around the stores once she figured out the electric scooter. She loved spending time in nature, especially in her earlier years at her home of Peter Dana Point where she is lovingly remembered for walks at the Pit and taking the kids sledding at the clinic hill. She enjoyed family cookouts, taking a drive, and had a serious sweet tooth. Charlene, aka Ma, Charl, Gram, Grammy, Uhkomi, will be dearly missed and loved always.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was predeceased by a daughter, Alice Tomah; grandchildren Felicia Tomah and Damien Fellows; sisters Joan and Eva; and brothers Richard, Donald "Duckie", and John Tomah.
