Obituary

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Peterson, 69, who left us on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the comforting presence of her family. Carol was a gem of a person, born to Harvard and Louise (Stewart) Salisbury on April 23, 1956, in the quaint town of Belfast, Maine. She was a beacon of kindness, a woman of faith, and a heart full of love for everyone she met. Her spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her. Carol's life was a tapestry of love and kindness, woven with threads of compassion and generosity. She was the beloved wife of Paul A. Peterson, cherished mother to her sons George, Mark, CWO2 Kenneth (U.S. Army) and wife Amanda, and Chance Peterson, and a loving grandmother to David and Emily Peterson, and was looking forward to her expected third grandchild in September. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne Peterson, Dean and Georgina Peterson, Vernal Peterson, and Karen Salisbury; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol was predeceased by her parents, her son, Harvard Peterson, grandson Kenneth Peterson II, and her brothers Dennis, Harvard, and Edwin Salisbury. She was a woman of grace and resilience whose spirit will forever be remembered in our hearts and through the numerous crochet threads she left behind. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, touching many lives with her unique gift of crochet. Carol's "granny squares" not only adorned many homes in Washington County and Charlotte County but also wrapped countless hearts with warmth and affection. Her goal was to cover as much of Washington County and Charlotte County as she could with her "granny squares". She bestowed her handmade afghans upon friends and strangers alike, turning each stitch into a symbol of her love and goodwill. Her faith in God was unwavering, and as a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she extended her love for God to every soul she encountered. Carol was a patient listener, offering a compassionate ear to those who sought comfort and understanding, always without judgment. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Machias Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 180 Court St., Machias. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite you to share your favorite memories, pictures, and stories of Carol on her memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. Let us celebrate Carol's life by remembering the joy, love, and warmth she brought into ours. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
