Carmen Christine (Cameron-McAlpine) Sigworth, 91, passed away on October 4, 2024. Carmen was born in Tower Hill, New Brunswick on May 14, 1933 to Arthur and Hattie (Linton) Cameron.
Carmen attended grammar school with her four siblings at a one room schoolhouse in Tower Hill, New Brunswick and then went on to St. Stephen High School. As a young woman, Carmen began working at Ganong’s Candy Factory in St. Stephen. She later moved to Baileyville in 1951 where she and her first husband Bud raised their two children. Throughout the years she worked in various food service positions; waitressing, managing restaurants and eventually owning her own restaurant. Carmen retired in 1996 from the State of Maine, in Augusta, where she was a custodian at the State House for many years.
Carmen was fiercely devoted to her family, she loved like no other, never angered or lost her patience. She was the kindest soul and all who were fortunate enough to know her, reaped the benefits. She was a past member of Riverside Rebekah Lodge #140 in Baileyville and the Spednic Club where she bowled regularly for many years. She found relaxation and peace through her knitting, crocheting, and quilting, outfitting all of her grandchildren throughout the years with hats, mittens, scarfs, afghans and quilts. After relocating to Augusta in the early 90’s from New Jersey, Carmen was blessed with time with her grandchildren, watching them play sports and watching them grow into adulthood. Her entire family was the center of her world.
In addition to her parents, Carmen was predeceased by her brothers, Earle and Merle Cameron; father and mother in-law, Everett and Betty McAlpine; sister-in-law, Tiny Merrithew; brother-in-law, Calvin McAlpine and his wife Barbara; her dear friend, Jeanne Dwelley; the father of her children, Barry McAlpine and her second husband, Dale Sigworth of New Jersey.
She is survived by her two children, David McAlpine and his wife Judy of Grand Lake Stream and Christine McAlpine of Augusta; sister, Mary Duplessie of McAdam, New Brunswick; brother, Norman Cameron of Ottawa, Ontario; four grandchildren, Mylissa Welch and her husband, Dan of Boothbay, Kristofor McAlpine and his wife Kristin of Hampden, Zachary Wormell of Manchester, New Hampshire and Abby Wormell of Augusta; five great grandchildren, Alexis, Sydney, Liam, Ryan and Jaxson; two great great grandchildren, Isabella and Kalahni and many very special nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thank you to Terry Lee Cookson of Augusta for her extraordinary care and kindness to Mom over the last few years and to the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn for their unwavering support and care of our Mom during her final days.
