Carl W. Marsh

January 24, 1947 — April 6, 2024

Whiting

Carl W. Marsh, 77, passed away on April 6, 2024 at his home on Gardner Lake. He was born and grew up in Eastport where he lived most of his life.

He graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1965.  He worked at Pratt & Whitney in CT for a short time and then returned home to Eastport where he earned his living at Cumming’s Garage, Eastport Water Co. and Dead River Co.  Never one to sit still, even in retirement, he stayed busy working at the Port of Eastport & driving the school bus. He served on the Eastport Fire Department for many years and was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge & Eastern Lodge #7 of the Freemasons.

He loved the outdoors, spending time in the woods & enjoyed being on the water. He reached his dream of living on the lake, retiring to a place he loved on Gardner Lake in Whiting. Ever the one to provide unsolicited advice, he often had an antidote to share on how he would do things if he were you (Just Sayin’). His deep love was for his family and instilled an expectation of strong work ethic for which he demonstrated his entire life. Though affectionately known as Crabby Carl or Grumpy Marsh, he was overboard in his selflessness & giving, especially for family, never wanting to impose and ensured his family had every opportunity to flourish.

He was pre-deceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his father, Lester Marsh; mother, Marion Marsh; and sister, Linda (Marsh) Hurt.

He is survived by his two sons, Carl Marsh and wife Danielle; Scott Marsh and wife Christina; his daughter, Sarah (Marsh) Donahe; a sister, Gwen (Marsh) Gray and husband Reid; 8 grandchildren: Tyler Marsh, Nikki Marsh, Bradley Marsh and fiancé Autumn Dyer, Cameron Marsh, Cassidy Marsh, Donald LaViolet Jr. and fiancé Jordyn Alley, Lindsey Donahe, and Mika Donahe; 2 great grandchildren: Mila and Westin LaViolet; and brother-in-law, Gary Hurt; as well cousins, extended family & close friends.

At his request, there will be no service, rather a private celebration of life will be enjoyed with his immediate family. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
