Obituary

Bessie May (Maker) Curtis, a resident of Dennysville, embraced her eternal rest on November 23,2024, surrounded with peace at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. She was born on April 11, 1937, in Calais, the proud eldest child of William and Lorraine (Wilcox) Maker.

Bessie's compassionate spirit shone brightly throughout her life as she dedicated her career to caring for others. As a Certified Nursing Assistant and through her work with the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Maine, she touched countless lives, embodying kindness and love in all her endeavors.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Alton Curtis, Bessie leaves behind a legacy of love through her sons, Larry Curtis and wife Miriam, and Wendell Curtis, and her treasured grandchildren, Alan, Emilia, and Olivia Curtis. She is also survived by her dear brother, Franklin Maker, and her sisters, Geraldine Farley and Carolyn Lowe, who will hold her memory close to their hearts.

In honoring Bessie's wishes, a private burial will take place at Dennysville Cemetery. While we grieve her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared. Bessie will forever be remembered for her warmth, strength, and devotion to family and community. May she rest in peace in the arms of Jesus. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
