Obituary

Barbara Ann Roussell, 79, passed away on Sept 22, 2025, at Saint John Regional Hospital, N.B, Canada, while at a women's retreat with her friends. She was born in Gardiner, ME, on July 20, 1946, to the late Charles and Hulda (Baker) Williams. Barbara's love story with her husband, Rick Sr., started at a school dance in 1960, and two years later, they were saying "I do" in Freeport, Maine and began their journey together. From New Hampshire to Connecticut to Massachusetts, they dotted the map with laughter, love, and seven wonderful children. In 1974, they set roots in Calais, Maine, where Barbara began working at the shoe factory, followed by the woolen mill (Eastport, Maine); but in 1986, Barbara and Rick embarked on a new adventure — Rick's Can and Bottle, where together, they worked alongside their children and grandchildren. Barbara "retired" but continued to work in the family business until her final days. Whether it was at the shoe factory, the woolen mill, or their own business, Barbara brought her unique blend of joy and resilience everywhere she went. As much as she loved her work, Barbara's heart was always home with her family. Known for her contagious laugh, her love for books, puzzles, concerts (not to mention, her chocolate labs), she still always found time for a real passion - moving household furnishings and family pictures. Barbara truly and thoroughly enjoyed the simple things that life had to offer – especially moments spent dancing with her husband. She loved family gatherings. Christmas was her favorite, that's when she knew all her family would be together. She cherished every moment spent with her family; sleepovers with her grandchildren, watching Disney movies, and had enjoyment in just having family around, and she always made it a priority to attend their school functions. Her granddaughter Breanna (with help from a "special assistant") provided help with medical needs in her final years, which improved the quality of her life. Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rick Roussell Sr., sister Marjorie Cole (Nelson) and family, brother David Williams (Paula) and family, her children Richard Roussel Jr. and wife Susan, Dale Roussell and wife Missy, Charlene Monzo and husband Michael, Roger Roussel, David Roussel, Carolee Roussel Black and husband Bob, 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a first great-great-grandchild expected in November. She was a friend of Bill W. for 30 years, and with that connection, added many more friends along the way. Barbara is now reunited with her parents, her daughter Cheryl Roussell Recker, her siblings Charles Williams Jr., Gertrude Larrabee, and Ivan Williams, two great-grandsons, Addison Coty and Gage Johnson, and many loving family members. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, at 1:00 PM, October 25, 2025, at Mays Funeral Home in Calais with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to either PAWS Bravehearts, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619, or All Saints United Methodist Church (Bean Supper), 849 Main St., Calais, ME 04619.
