Barbara (Gatcomb) Curtis passed away at Down East Community Hospital in Machias on August 13, 2024. She was born April 11, 1933, in East Machias, the daughter of the late Carroll and Alice (Libby) Gatcomb.

Most of her life she enjoyed working on the nursing staff at local hospitals, Eastport Nursing Home, and Eastport Medical Center. She retired and went back to work at Dawson-Edwards- Calais Children’s Project in Calais for almost six years. She retired for the second time, and the following day traveled to Israel for vacation which she had always wanted to do.

After sharing 56 years of marriage to Richard Curtis, Sr, the father of her children, she was predeceased by Richard in May, 2007, an infant son Dale Wayne, a sister Virgina Libby Dennison in 2007, a brother Carroll Gatcomb Jr, and her sister Pauline Tyson. She is survived by their children, a daughter, Ellen Gaddis of Wiscasset, a son, Richard Curtis, Jr and wife Jennifer Curtis of Edmunds, and a daughter, Carol Ann Robinson and her husband Albert Robinson of Wiscasset who was like another son to Barbara. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as a sister-in-law Joan Gatcomb of East Machias and a special cousin Sandra Pottle of Perry.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, doing crafts and playing piano. She was always busy doing things she enjoyed and never stopped to “smell the roses”.
