Indian Township

Aubrey Stephen Sockabasin, 65, passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.  Aubrey was born at Peter Dana Point on September 21, 1958, son of Edward and Eunice (Dana) Sockabasin.

After attending school in Indian Township, Aubrey started his career with the Indian Township Tribal Government.  He worked initially as a dispatcher for the police department, and later was in maintenance for the school department, public works, and the housing authority for both Indian Township and Pleasant Point.  Aubrey enjoyed woodcarving, listening to music, playing softball, horseshoes, pool, and basketball.  He will be remembered for his kindness to everyone he met.

In addition to his parents Edward and Eunice Sockabasin, Aubrey was predeceased by a brother Eddie, and a sister Annette.  Surviving are his wife Lisa (Nicholas) Sockabasin; four children, Melissa Dana and companion Jon Stone of Claremont, NH, Louis Dana and companion Adrienne Lola of Indian Township, Cody Sappier of Indian Township, and Heidi Sappier and fiancé Breena Hood of Princeton; grandchildren Shayla, Decovan, Aaliyah, Samara, Baby Lou, Granton, Benson, Elaina, Adriana, Dominic, and Baylee; three brothers, Roger Sockabasin of Indian Township, Dwayne Tomah and wife Erica of Dennysville, and Walter Sockabasin and wife Jessica of Brewer; five sisters, Mae Sockabasin of Pleasant Point, Bonnie Collines of  Pleasant Point, Alberta “Bowe” Lewey and companion Toast Mithcell of Pleasant Point, Lillian Sockabasin and companion Buddy of Indian Township, and Sebrena Tomah  of Bangor; many nieces and nephews; special friends Loretta and Dave, Ernie and Missy, Nancy and Sylvia, Gordon and Dodie, Pat “Rico” Francis, George Sockabasin (a.k.a. Uncle Billy), and Mike Sockabasin; numerous other special friends, teammates, and coworkers; three feline companions Moxie, Cali, and Nova; and canine companion Thief.

Visitation will be held at his sister Bonnie’s home, 23 Wokosos Lane, Pleasant Point, beginning 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, until 10 a.m. Saturday, December 30.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at St.  Joseph Church, 51 Washington St., Eastport.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
