Armand R. Gouzie, known affectionately to many as Pep or Pepere, from Cooper, Maine, passed away on Christmas Day 2025. Born on September 18, 1940, in Westbrook, ME, Armand was a compassionate, generous, and loving soul who brought joy and laughter wherever he went whether in Maine or Naples Florida. His infectious humor, passion for life, and devotion to his family were the hallmarks of his character. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest, always finding the joy in every moment and sharing that joy generously with others.
Armand was a dedicated and inspiring school teacher in the Portland School system for 35 years, retiring in 1998. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; he served as an assistant track coach at Portland High School for 12 years, shaping the lives of countless students. His retirement years were filled with his love for puttering, fixing things, carpentry, and watching the sunrise. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and spent summer days fishing and boating on Cathance Lake. Armand's cooking was legendary, especially his Peperes chicken and crepes, which he delighted in preparing for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Armand was a member of the Cathance Lake association, and enjoyed the company of his many neighbors and their families.
Armand will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Cecile, his children Jeffrey, Allan, Katherine Ludka, his grandsons Daniel (Stacia) Gouzie, Dylan (Julia) Champagne, Tanner Gouzie, great-grandchildren Stella and Brady Champagne, and numerous other family members who cherished him. He was preceded in death by his parents Adjutor and Laura Gouzie, his granddaughter Eliza Gouzie, twelve siblings, and several nieces and nephews.
Armand's life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and family. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
