Obituary for Adam Howard Cottrell

Calais – Adam Howard Cottrell, 35, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 10, 2016. Adam was born in Calais on August 11, 1980, son to Stephen and Sheila (Agrell) Cottrell. After graduating from Calais High School, Class of 1999, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a heavy construction equipment operator with the engineer battalion. In the Army Adam was awarded the Army Achievement Medal while serving with Task Force 27th Engineers, the Extraordinary Meritorious Service award during Operations Nobel Eagle and Enduring Freedom, and the NATO Medal for serving with NATO on operations in Kosovo. After his military service he returned home to Calais and worked for local contractors as a heavy equipment operator until starting with Pan Am Railway, and most recently with Eastern Maine Railway as a foreman/machine operator. Adam loved the outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and four-wheeling. His most cherished moments where those spent with his two children whom he loved dearly, Sadye and Adam Jr.

Adam was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Agrell; paternal grandfather Howard Cottrell; and an aunt and two uncles, Sharon and Herbert Guay, and Craig Cottrell. Surviving are his parents, Stephen and Sheila Cottrell of Baring; his two children, Sadye Cottrell and her mother Jennifer Goode of Calais, and Adam Cottrell Jr. and his mother Kasey Roussell of Calais; three sisters, Karen Lockenwitz of Baileyville, Michelle Cottrell of Calais, and Mary Brown and husband Adam of Norridgewock; maternal grandfather Paul Agrell and wife Bernice of Calais; paternal grandmother Lorraine Cottrell of Calais; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Second Baptist Church, Church St., Calais. A celebration of Adam’s life will begin at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Matt Burden officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a trust fund for his children, c/o The First, PO Box 806, Calais, ME 04619. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
