Obituary for Susan Mildred Hill (Milliken)

Alexander – Susan Mildred Hill, 94, passed away on March 24, 2017 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. She was born on May 7, 1922 to Sherman and Leccie “Mildred” (Kane) Milliken in Ellsworth where she graduated from Ellsworth High School, class of 1939. She then worked at JJ Newberry’s until she married Earl Hill on March 2, 1941, together they moved to Waterville and then Norway. Susan soon returned to Ellsworth when Earl was drafted and took her job back with JJ Newberry’s. After his return home, they eventually moved to Calais in 1947 where Susan stayed home with their four sons. In 1989 they relocated for a final time to Alexander. Susan attended First Baptist Church in Calais. She had many enjoyments in life, including knitting, cooking and traveling but time spent with her children and grandchildren was her greatest enjoyment.

In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her husband, Earl C. Hill; her sister, Minnie Underhill and four brothers, James, Sherman and William Milliken, and Arthur Pio. She is survived by her four sons, Earl Hill and his wife Patsy, Larry Hill and his wife Emogene, all of Alexander, Russell Hill and his wife Debbie of Calais and Ronald Hill and his wife Shirley of Alexander; ten grandchildren, Sally Hayward and husband Chris of Calais, Robert Hill and his wife Denise of Princeton, Sandra Towner and her husband Steve of TN, Kimberly Hill of Acworth, GA, Krista Prue and her husband Matt of Glenburn, Amanda Holmes of NH, Scott Hill and his wife Adelyn of Bridgewater, MA, Randy Hill and his wife Heather of Cadillac, MI, Gary Hill and his wife Jennifer of Holden and Lisa Emerson and her husband Todd of Columbia Falls; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Alexander – A graveside service honoring both Earl and Susan Hill will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10th at Alexander Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
