Obituary for Shirley A. Godet

Dennysville – Shirley Agnes Godet, 91, passed away in the early morning hours of June 1, 2019 at Calais Regional Hospital. Shirley was born on September 23, 1927 in Edmunds to George and Louise (Murphy) Ward. She grew up in Dennysville where she graduated from Dennysville High School, class of 1946.

One of Shirley’s first jobs was working the soda fountain at Fisherman’s in Calais followed by packing sardines in Lubec, working at Graham’s Lunch Counter in Machias and she was also the Dennysville Town Clerk, but Shirley was most proud of the job title “mom”. Shirley married Robert Wilder Jr. soon after high school. As a young married couple, they always made time for each other, they loved to go square dancing and listen to country music. She stayed busy with her flower gardens and house plants she enjoyed making baskets and ceramics and loved spending time at her family’s camp on Orange Lake. Later in life Shirley took the time to travel with her second husband Richard Godet. She was a wonderful cook and was happiest hosting family gatherings and celebrating the holidays.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Wilder Jr. in 1985 and her second husband, Richard Godet in 2007; a brother, Alton Ward; two sisters-in-law, Adeline and Gloria Ward and her brother-in-law, Herbert Wilder.

She will be remembered by her son, David Wilder and his wife, Debbie of Dennysville; two brothers, Clifford Ward of Gardner and George Ward Jr. of CT; granddaughter, Jennifer Wilder of Hermon; grandson, Jeffrey Wilder and his wife Tanya of East Machias; five great grandchildren, Samantha, Cassidy, Devon and Chase Wilder and Mikayla Oakes; stepdaughters, Yvonne Sirois and her husband Clayton of Steep Falls, and Anne Godet; stepson, Richard Godet of South Portland; step granddaughters, Michelle Fisk, Amanda Rand, Ashley Smiley and Katie and Emma Berry; and many niece, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am., Saturday, June 8th at Dennysville Congregational Church, 15 King St., Dennysville. Committal will follow at Dennysville Cemetery.
