Obituary for Ronald Howland Jr.

Vanceboro – Ronald Eugene Howland Jr, 69, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at a Bangor hospital following a courageous battle related to Agent Orange. Ronnie was born in McAdam, NB on February 24, 1950, son of Ronald and Joyce (Eales) Howland.

Ronnie attended the Vanceboro High School and graduated from Lee Academy, Class of 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Following his enlistment, Ronnie returned home to help take care of his father. He attended the University of Maine in Machias, studying education. Ronnie worked for American Exchange in the business office, Vanceboro area school district and for CP Railroad. He was a member of Lewey’s Island Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M. in Princeton, Knights of Pythias, and the Frederick S. Mills Post #0172 American Legion in Vanceboro. Ronnie was an avid reader, especially westerns. He enjoyed gardening, taking great pride in the flower gardens, keeping his lawn immaculate, and playing cribbage. His latest passion was restoring the family homestead.

Ronnie was predeceased by both his parents, Ronald and Joyce Howland. Surviving are his four sisters, Frances Scott of McAdam, NB, Barb Mason of McAdam, NB, Louise Howland of Vanceboro, and Connie Featherson and husband Wayne of Machias; his brother Yogi Howland and wife Margaret of Vanceboro; two aunts, Ruth and Marilyn Eales, both of McAdam, NB; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Vanceboro Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
