Meddybemps - Rebecca “Beckey” Marie Cole, 54, of Calais, Maine passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 8, 2020.

Our mom was born January 31, 1966 and grew up in Calais, Maine. She married her high school sweetheart, Tim Cole. While many reading this might remember the skepticism they had of these two teenagers with a newborn getting married back in 1985, they were still together and very much in love after nearly 35 years, enough to make their grown children still roll their eyes.

She studied Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Maine where she earned her Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She persevered through a very rigorous clinical program while taking care of her three young children, a feat that still awes us. She worked for years as a Speech-Language Pathologist, caring for both children and adults, although her passion was for helping victims of stroke.

She was a very private person, but loved her husband, children and grandchildren beyond measure. She leaves behind her husband, Tim, of 34 years; her daughter, Samantha and husband Jon of Wilmington, NC and their children Quinn, 9, and Ada Marie 3; a son, Andrew and husband Cody of Catonsville, MD and their daughter, Charlie Marie, 6 months; and daughter, Toni and companion Robby Fitch of Eddington, ME and their daughter Nora Jay, 3 months; and her parents, Charles & Valerie Barnard of Sun City Center, FL.

Together, with our dad, she lived a simple and comfortable life on Meddybemps Lake. She loved being “on the water” whether that was the ocean or lake. She looked forward to summers when her kids and grandkids would all “come home” to be together. She enjoyed the small things in life. She was a lover of animals and all tiny living things. She loved watching the birds. She always rooted for the underdog. She spoke up for what she believed in and did so through various organizations and different causes. She enjoyed writing and constantly learning. She made sure everyone always had a full glass of water before bed. She loved music and singing at the top of her lungs. She was “Gramma” to her grandkids, who adored her. She overcame huge obstacles in her life, and still continued to be our greatest cheerleader. She taught us that “a weed is only a matter of opinion” and “love is in the details." And that true beauty is what is in your heart. Mom, you will be terribly missed. SYWISY!~

In keeping with our Mom’s wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, to honor our Mom, simply be kind, pay it forward, and whatever you a good one.

Timmy, my heart goes out to your entire family at this time. I will always remember Beckey as a quiet yet fun, fellow band mate and when she wasn’t blowing us away with her God-given talent on the trumpet, she REALLY shined with her angelic voice. I’m sure she is being welcomed into their choir as we speak. Go rest high on that mountain Beckey.
