Obituary for Joanne Katherine Day

Princeton – Joanne Katherine Day, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Westgate Manor in Bangor. Joanne was born in Monticello on September 23, 1932, daughter of Fred and Flora (Beaton) Leavitt.

On June 25, 1949, she married her love, John Day. Joanne was a cook at Princeton Elementary School Cafeteria for many years, as well as the Indian Township School Cafeteria and Leen’s Lodge. She enjoyed making quilts and giving them to her family and friends. Anytime Joanne went somewhere or had company, they always received a loaf of her homemade bread. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Joanne was predeceased by her husband John; son Alan Day; and her grandson Timmy Day. Surviving are her five children, Jacquelyn O’Neill and husband Douglas of Princeton and Georgetown, FL, Jill Wambolt and husband Jim of Enfield, Jenny Rullo and companion Simon Hassis of Enfield, Brenda Sabattis of Calais, and William Day and wife Gina of Valrico, FL; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Elmer Beaton and wife Phyllis of Monticello; sister Enda Newman of Lubec; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24th at Princeton Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
