Obituary for James Joseph Lunn

Calais – James Joseph Lunn, 76, passed away suddenly on February 25, 2019 at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. James was born at home in Calais to Thomas and Ruth (Kelley) Lunn on June 29, 1942.

Just before he graduated from Calais High School in 1963, Jimmy enlisted with the Army National Guard and left for boot camp soon after. Jimmy had a slight obsession with cars, one of his favorites was a yellow 57 Ford convertible that he would drive to St. Stephen and circle the block where Georgena O’Brien lived hoping she would notice him. She did, and on July 8, 1967 they were married in St. Stephen, from that point on they were inseparable. Together they grew their family, traveled, sustained many meaningful friendships and made the very home that Jimmy was born in their own.

Jimmy worked at Georgia Pacific, initially as an operator in the craft mill DNS area and then later as an equipment operator with the yard crew. He retired in 2004 after more than 40 years of service, which led to his induction into the Quarter Century Club. Not only was he a dedicated worker, he was also dedicated to his community. He was a faithful parishioner at Immaculate Conception RC Church, a fourth-degree member with the Knights of Columbus, Council 149 with whom he volunteered as Santa at many of their Christmas events, he belonged to the Faithful Navigator’s, Street Rod National, National Campers & Hiker’s Association, The Good Sams Club, Schoodic Sunrise Campers and Beacon Light Campers. Jimmy also loved to restore antique cars and pedal cars, travel and take bus trips with Georgena and he was a collector of hats and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Jimmy will be fondly remembered by his wife of over 51 years, Georgena Lunn; his two children, Elizabeth Ferrelli and her husband, David of Cumberland; his son, Michael Lunn of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Emily, Nathan and Daniel; several nieces, nephews and lots of friends, including special friend, Gene Cookson and his wife Kaloua.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, David Joseph Lunn; a brother, Albert Lunn and his sister, Jean E. Boyd and her husband, Cecil.

A memorial Mass was celebrated by Father Kevin J. Martin at 11:00 am on Friday, March 1st at Immaculate Conception Church, Calais. Committal will take place at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 10th at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
