Obituary for Horace Leslie Prickett

Pembroke – Horace Leslie Prickett, 101, passed away at his home on April 6, 2017 with his wife by his side. Leslie was born in Hulmeville, PA on July 24, 1915 to Horace and May (Barton) Prickett.

He enlisted in the United States Army during WWII and worked as a chef while stationed in France and Germany. After his service, Leslie attended Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Paris, France before returning to Pennsylvania and later moving to Forked River, NJ where he purchased The Captain’s Inn. He owned and operated The Captain’s Inn as head chef until the 1980’s when he moved to Maine where he had a summer residence. While in Maine Leslie sustained his love for cooking by purchasing and running Heslin’s Restaurant and then opening Cinqueterre Farm Bakery attached to his home in Pembroke where he and his wife, Gloria, baked until he was 96 years old. Leslie not only loved to cook he had a magnificent work ethic and spent his days doing things that interested him, he raised show horses, was a beefalo farmer, owned a trailer business and enjoyed nature. He spent time planting trees at his farm in Pembroke and made wreathes to sell around the country. Leslie accomplished so much in his life time because he was a doer, when he put his mind to something it became his reality.

In addition to his parents, Leslie was predeceased by his son, Leslie Darryl Prickett, his first wife and the mother of his children, Elizabeth “Betty” (Berish) Prickett and his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and John Hemp.

He will be remembered by his wife of over 18 years, Gloria (Sochia) Prickett; daughter, Patricia Ann Bomenblit and her husband Frank of Tom’s River, NJ; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In keeping with Leslie’s wishes there will be no service, he will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Pembroke.
