Horace “Jim” C. McCurdy, Jr.Alexander – Horace “Jim” C. McCurdy Jr. 79, died unexpectedly in his sleep August 23, 2005. Jim was born in Baring, Dec. 16, 1925, son of the late Horace and Martha (Preston) McCurdy Sr. He is a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the Phillipines and Japan with the 1st Cavalry. He was employed by St. Croix Paper and Georgia Pacific. Jim was a member of Lewy’s Island Lodge #138 AF & AM for over 25 years and enjoyed playing music with his friends, especially his “Kitchen Picken” at people’s homes. He also played for local benefits and nursing homes. Jim was predeceased by a son, Allen McCurdy, granddaughter April Hansen, grandson, Jimmie McCurdy, and a sister, Lizzie Griffin. Surviving are his wife of over 57 years, Dorothy (Matthews) McCurdy; a daughter, Ruth Kidder and friend Robert O’Donnell of Charlotte; three sons, Clifford McCurdy of N.H., Barry McCurdy of Old Town, and Lee McCurdy and wife Crystal of Biddeford; two sisters, Alma Harvey of Calais and Bernice Tracy of Baileyville; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005 in Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais.
