Forrestine Webber Wheelock (Hammond)

Calais – Forrestine W. Wheelock, 87, passed away on the evening of October 7, 2018 while surrounded by family and friends at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. Forrestine was born on January 14, 1931, the youngest of two children to Forrest and Florence (Hill) Hammond.

Forrestine grew up in Calais and became a hairdresser, owning her own shop called “Ye Beauty Nook”, and traveled with her husband and children during her husband’s military career in the Air Force.
Upon her husband’s retirement from the military in 1973, they returned to Calais. At that time, she re-opened her beauty salon and continued to work as a hairdresser until 1990. Forrestine nourished those around her with love, faith and music. She loved family and friends, gardening, playing the piano, and doing knitting and crafts. Forrestine loved animals and enjoyed spending time with those she loved.

In addition to her parents, Forrestine was predeceased by her husband, Edward R. Wheelock; a son, Forrest E. Wheelock; her sister Doris Clark; a nephew James Clark; and a dear friend Austin Townsend. Surviving are her son, David Wheelock and companion April McDonough and her son Brayden Berning of Lehigh Acres, FL,; grandchildren, Carrie Tuttle and family of CO, Joseph Wheelock and family of Farmingdale, Essla Blakeman and family of Brewer, Hannah Wheelock and family of Brewer, and Forrest Wheelock II and family of VA; several great-grandchildren; her sister Molly McArthur and her family, Cindy, Maralee, Sidney and Barry; nieces and nephews, Larry and Shirley Clark, Ruth Baldwin, Janet Moulton, Barbara Oulette, Nancy Dennett, Donny Clark, and their families; dear friends, Gerard Turmelle of Bangor and Kathy Stanhope of Calais who were both instrumental with providing care for Forrestine; special friends, Jim and Lena Long of FL, and Doreen Hill, Francina Pelletier and Anna Seely of Calais; Ann, Buster, Ozzie, Allan and Maria Townsend and many other dear friends throughout the Calais, Bangor and Eastport areas.

Forrestine will be missed by all as she shared so much with so many people, touching their lives in a way only she could. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many medical professionals for their attentiveness to Forrestine’s needs, and the many people who live and work at the Calais Methodist Homes and the Maine Veteran’s Home of Bangor for all they do.

A Celebration of Forrestine’s Life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Forrestine’s memory may be made to either the Maine Veterans Home of Bangor, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401, or Calais Methodist Homes, 116 Palmer St., Calais, ME 04619.
