Obituary for Donna Mingo

Calais – Donna Rae Mingo, 81, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Donna was born in Calais on July 16, 1938, daughter of Dana and Dorothy (Canavan) Miles.

Donna graduated from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1956, and the following year married her high school sweetheart, Alden Mingo. When they closed the Calais location, Donna went to work at the family businesses, Keene’s Lake Camping Grounds, Mingo’s Evergreen Products, and Mingo’s Berries.

She was a Rainbow Girl and member of Orion Chapter No. 45 Order of the Eastern Star in Calais, and the Calais Athletics Booster’s Club. Donna loved the outdoors and staying active. She enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, and spending time at the family camp on Nash’s Lake. She was an avid local sports fan, rarely missing a Calais game. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Donna loved all children and was “Mom” to many, and you know who you are.

In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her mother-in-law Bessie Mingo; a sister Barbara Redding; and a brother-in-law, Stephen Lincoln. Surviving are her husband and best friend, the love of her life, Alden Mingo; four children, Jo-Ann Mingo and companion Michael Winkler of Schenectady, NY, Karen Gorman and husband Gary of Rehoboth, MA, Richard Mingo and wife Susan of Robbinston, and Arthur Mingo and wife Angela of Calais; four grandchildren, Lindsey Mingo and fiancé John Ellis of Quincy, MA, Mitchel Mingo of Quincy, MA, Jacqueline Schultz and husband Thomas of Augusta, and Evan Mingo of Calais; a great-grandson, Mason Schultz; sister-in-law Barbara Lincoln of Accord, NY; brother-in-law Paul Redding of Calais; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank her excellent caregivers, Sharon Johnson, Teresa Hollingdale, Freda McIver, Jessica Searcy, Lisa Thornton, many more volunteers, and her hospice nurse Melanie Leavitt Howard. And special thanks to her doctor and family friend, Dr. Peter Wilkinson.

Due to COVID restrictions, a graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the Calais Athletic Boosters Club, 34 Blue Devil Hill, Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
