Obituary for Dale Clyde Lincoln

Perry – Dale Clyde Lincoln, 81, son of Arthur Ewan Lincoln and Martha (Spinney) Lincoln, was called to be with the Lord on July 12, 2018.

He was born on January 5, 1937 and graduated from: Shead Memorial High School (1954), Maine Maritime Academy (1957), and The University of Southern Maine (1980). He was a commissioned officer with the U.S. Navy for more than ten years, and an engineer aboard the Gulf Oil Tankers for 6 years. Dale was a teacher at Southern Maine Technical College (1963-66), where he served as Chief Engineer of the Motor Vessel AQUALAB. He also was a teacher at Woodland High School (1970-74), and Shead High School at Eastport (1974-93). He was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon at the Washington Street Baptist Church in Eastport for many years.

Dale had a lifetime love for baseball. In the early 1950’s he started running long distances each day in order to get better conditioned to play baseball. He found that he loved to run long distances and was proud to have run the Boston Marathon three times. He organized races in the State of Maine for many years. He was a Baseball and Cross Country Coach for both elementary and high school students for several years. In honor of Dale’s devotion to running and coaching, the Dale C. Lincoln Kids Run was founded and is held annually during Eastport’s July 4th activities. In 2002 he was inducted as a member of The Maine Running Hall of Fame. In 2017 he was inducted to the Maine Maritime Academy Athletics Hall of Fame for Baseball and Cross Country. Two favorite money-making jobs of his lifetime were raking blueberries and digging clams. He authored five books and hundreds of true stories. Dale and Elsie (Lee) Lincoln of Eastport were married on June 24, 1963. She was the love of his life.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother David K. Lincoln. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elsie (Lee) Lincoln; his children, Carol Lincoln Coffee and Fiancé Dan Faust of North Smithfield, RI, Diana Lincoln of Plainville, CT, and Dale Lincoln II of Saco; two grandchildren, Alex and Alyssa Macomber, both of Plainville, CT; his sister Ruth (Lincoln) MacKechnie of Calais; and several cousins and close friends.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 112 County Rd., Eastport. Burial will follow in Restlawn Cemetery, Perry. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dale’s memory may be made to The Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME, or the Eastport Dialysis Center. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
