Life Legacy


Calais – Catherine Muriel Karbonovich, 100, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center. Catherine was born in Berkley, California on July 10, 1911, daughter of the late Herbert Bradshaw and Anna (Carter) Squires. She worked for many years for Holland Dutch Bakery in California until she entered the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Catherine earned the rank of Staff Sergeant during her service. She met and married fellow serviceman, Joseph Karbonovich, on December 22, 1945, 11 days after she was honorably discharged. She moved to her husband’s home state of Maine and lived near Jackman. She relocated to Eastport after her husband’s death and worked as a senior companion who aided many local residences. She also served in the Peace Corps while residing in Eastport. In addition to her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1981. Surviving are many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Catherine will be laid to rest in Squires' family niche with her brother, Bruce, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
